Federal data are more than just statistics. They determine which communities are visible, which disparities can be documented, and what evidence is available to researchers, advocates, and courts. As the federal government changes how it collects and reports information on race and ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity, climate, and other issues, those changes could have far-reaching consequences. This session will explain what is happening, why it matters, and how lawyers and advocates can respond through public comments, litigation, and other forms of engagement. We will also discuss opportunities to influence these decisions through public comments and potential litigation, with practical guidance on how to engage.
